Of course, nandiyan palagi ang tinatawag nating “MONEY ISSUE” tama ba? Kung kayat naisipan kong mag post dito para kunin ang inyong mga Ideas at pag usapan natin ang mga sumusunod:

  • Paano tayo makakatulong sa mga taga Cuyo in terms of small amount of money?
  • Paano?
  • Sino ang pwedeng humawak ng pera? (Kasalukayang nakatira sa Cuyo)
  • Sang ayon ba kayo sa plano? Kailangan ba nating bumuo ng ASSOCIATION?

Ang inyong opinion ay mahalaga simulan natin ngayon and you know what to do, hit that “COMMENT” below and drop it like it’s hot!

NOTE: This post will remain sticky for the meantime. [Mandy Perez and Jomarie Ponce de Leon]

First of all i need to know who is Jomarie Ponce de Leon? Also i need more information on the subject before i can make and decision. Or make any further comments on this subject. Maybe if the Cuyunon (OFW) were interested in making a small but regular donation to help in this matter, and other matters that need attending to, it may help, saying that, a commission, or association would be needed to control this, as monies cannot simply be given to just one person to manage. This is just a suggestion. I am not informed enough on the subject to make any firm decisions.

If you need help from Philippine end, I can volunteer LYRICS & SHEETS Foundation to help you in the administration of your plans. This is a duly registered non-stock, non-profit organization.
I’m the president of the foundation and I run it together with Judy Ann Santos, Agot Isidro and several other friends from the Philippine entertainment industry.

    A brief backgrounder on L&S.
Last October 22, we just celebrated our 5th anniversary at Tavern-On-The-Square in Greenbelt, with the participation of 15 new bands supporters, we also launched our 10-year nationwide project IS DA REVOLUTION with Jet Pangan of The Dawn, Julianne (upcoming artist), and Mark Escueta of RiverMaya as our new spokespersons. IS DA Revolution is a project that aims to build ANG PURO, a wellness center with hospital facilities for aging artists in Puerto Princesa City.

Sa Cuyo y na, we have been conducting events ( LIMPYO AGUADO every Black Saturday for the past 4 years) and two medical missions ( in cooperation with PALAWENOS OF THE MIDWEST in 2003 and 2006).

We also had 9 scholars from different high schools in Cuyo for the past three years. Ing tadeng amen lamang this year tengued medyo mabegat den tengued ag college sanda ren. But just recently, Mylene Dizon was able to solicit $2,000 for the scholarship fund. So, we will again grant scholarships in the coming school year. This time we are planning to also get some Cuyunons that are based in Puerto Princesa as recipients since we are also planning to put up an office there in preparation for the building of ANG PURO.

A month ago, Chocolate and Pooh Pakyaw also played for the benefit of the foundation in Deal Or No Deal. We are still waiting for the awarding to the money they won. Our upcoming projects is a film festival in September spearheaded by Joyce Bernal, a charity dinner in December with Judy Ann Santos as a chef, and a major concert in February 2008.

I’m just mentioning all these for the benefit of those who have not heard of the foundation ever. And also proud that since it was created in 2001 to raise funds for bedsheets and equipments for Cuyo District Hospital (we were able to donate almost 300 thousand pesos worth of bedsheets and equipments through fundraisers and celebrity-bazaars, and was also able to solicit 500 thousand pesos from Senator Kiko Pangilinan through the help of Sharon Cuneta)… ang LYRICS & SHEETS ay isarang foundation nga ang prioridad ay ang welfare y ang mga Cuyunon. Kanaten dia nga tanan.

Wheew! Angka labeg den… kunako andan malebas ako lamang…

Hi. I am Joey Fabello, I don’t know how to speak Cuyunon well but I can understand a few Cuyunon words. My parents are both Cuyunons but they are now residing in Puerto Princesa City. Nevertheless, I still want to learn the language to get to know my roots and due to my belief on the possible decline of cuyunon language in the future.

regarding the question posted i actually have a suggestion.but first i’d like to reply to tayangaw’s message.

    Mayad nga adlaw!

    Sirs,

here are my suggestions. Right now, if I’m not mistaken we don’t have a Cuyunon-English dictionary. If I’ve done my research right, we have very little written poems, articles, etc about cuyunons and our language.

By promoting the Cuyunon language through the following
    1. Cuyunon-English dictionary
    2. Concerts incorporating the Cuyunon language in the songs (for starters)
    3. Revival of Cuyunon folk songs (Toting, the only Cuyunon song I was able to memorize) into rock songs or something to that effect
    4. Events that seek to inform the public of what a cuyunon is and the wonderful things that await them in cuyo

All of which can be done in other countries (Filipino communities), Puerto Princesa City and other municipalities in palawan and Cuyo.

We will be able to promote Cuyo and Cuyunon (both the language and the people). This will start to create interest among the Filipinos and this will strengthen the Cuyunon identity.

    1. Dictionary, this can be created by pooling your efforts into creating even a small and simple cuyunon-english dictionary. I, for one, want to learn the language but don’t have enough tools because I can’t find a Cuyunon-English dictionary even on the internet.

These can be distributed to souvenir shops (at first) and maybe eventually, National Bookstore and then can be exported internationally.

This is a good money making activity which hits two birds in one stone (language and culture promotion, and making profits).

The profits that you make may be allocated into helping out our fellow Cuyunons.

Same goes for the Cuyunon rock concerts or acoustic concerts. Mr. Nicco Garcia, I hope you can consider this. For example, (just thinking wild), a revival of Eheads’ songs but in Cuyunon which can be staged not only in Cuyo, in Puerto Princesa, even in Manila. Or maybe just a few songs.

I am currently residing in Quezon City and I’m very much willing to help by performing or by doing whatever it is you ask me to do (I mean, for the event). The profits for this event could be donated to Cuyo.

    These are just simple suggestions.

    Thank you very much.

    hey, joey…
    those are nice suggestions…

and i also would like to inform you na madami ng movements that aims to bring pride to Cuyunons…

there is an upcoming shirt line that will be launched by next year that pays tribute to Cuyunon sense of humor…

Sinika is a very popular band in the alternative/folk music circle at sa “Latong Cuyo” album nila, 15 out of 16 cuts ang Cuyunon. This band is headed by Nonoy Llansanas and last year they played in an international jazzfest together with international acts in CCP…

there’s also a good musician in Cuyo who is just waiting for a break…I forgot his name but his family name is Palarca… he has excellent Cuyunon compositions…

there’s also an upcoming band who is about to record an album… i think they call themselves Canayos…

by March or April next year, there will be a Cuyunon festival that’s going to be held in Puerto Princesa Coliseum. Si Manang Jane din ang head ng project na ito…

this holy week, there will be 3 professional photographers in Cuyo who will document the island for an exhibit…

and this we all have to pray about…

there is a brewing plan of a feature film inspired by a Cuyunon folksong… major stars, with staff that are already veteran in the industry and possibly, to be produced by a major film outfit. story is already being developed… and since 50% of the film’s language will be Cuyunon… i got invited to the first pre-production, brainstorming, and planning meeting in the evening of March 19…

see… God has so much planned for Cuyunons… He is just waiting for the perfect time to make it all happen…

    that’s really great!

as for the dictionary, would you know how I can contact Manang Jane? Is she the sister of Dr Timbancaya who lives in Puerto Princesa?
I’d like to get a copy and, also, I’d like to help out in looking for distribution centers here in manila…

Sambali…hmmm… that’s interesting. i’ll watch out for this event.

as for the shirts, i have a kapampangan friend who also has almost the same concept. his shirts have kapampangan words written on it such as ume ka keni takman mu ku (halika dito, tikman mo ko).
that’s really good news. cuyunon entrepreneurs!

as for the film, please keep me updated about it, ill advertise it to my friends!

i just would like to ask, sir, how do you get all these info about cuyunons? i’ve been searching through the net for these past few weeks but i wasn’t able to see much about us. mostly, i come across manang fe tria-fernandez’s articles about Cuyo, Cuyunon Folk songs and cuyunons.but that’s just it. i don’t know if i have contemporaries who are also promoting the culture. I have just recently decided to dig deeper in terms of the cuyunon culture after a few months after college and I don’t know a lot of Cuyunons since I’ve been here in Manila for 9 years already.
