Where did the word “Cuyo” come from? 04/10/2007

Obviously that’s the name of our home town. “Cuyo ang akeng banua” But, have you ever wondered where did it come from? If that’s the case, here’s the answer.
One of our ancestors Diokno Manlavi sez…
When the Spaniards landed in the middle of 1662 they asked the first native they met what the name of the Island was. The native merely repeated the first Spanish word he heard -“Cuyo”- and so it was named Cuyo which in Spanish means “of which, of whom, whose, where of”.
